The sensation vibrates your head and pounds deep in your chest, the sound is ear-splittingly loud and the scent of nitro is strong enough to draw tears. The visuals are stunning, too, especially at night, when header flames accompany the cars as they traverse 1,000 feet – often in under four seconds.
But everything happens so fast, it's almost impossible to take in and appreciate all the sheer power of these beasts.
That's why our photo team recently captured a close-up shot of Austin Prock on track at dusk in his Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster from John Force Racing. From the body torsion and tire flex to the combustion, this still shot paints a vivid picture of these cars' violent beauty.
