Updating an icon is no easy task. But that was the challenge faced by Meridian, Mississippi’s Mike Goldman Customs as they worked on their recent 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe Wagon build.
The solution was to install a Chevrolet Performance LS3 Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain System in the vehicle famously known as a “Tin Woody.” The packages are designed to take much of the guesswork out of installation.
“It simplifies the whole project,” said Talbert Goldman, son of the company’s namesake, during this year’s Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. “If you have any issues you plug into it and you work on it and go from there. It makes it so simple.”
The centerpiece LS3 crate engine* has become a classic in its own right, with the standard 6.2L power plant cranking out 430 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft of torque. The engine’s internal components also help provide long-lasting performance and durability.
The LS3 in the Tin Woody is mated to a SuperMatic 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission to complete the Connect & Cruise package. The transmission features a 495 lb.-ft. torque limit.
Each Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain System is factory-matched by Chevrolet Performance engineers and includes a crate engine, transmission, complementing engine and transmission controllers, a torque converter (for automatic transmissions) and necessary installation kis.
The systems look great, too, and despite the Tin Woody originally being powered by a 235 cu.-in. mill, the modern LS3 looks right at home in its engine bay. Yet, the classic style remains.
This week, we’ve made one of our favorite images of the LS3 in the Tim Woody into a Wallpaper Wednesday download.
