The Chevrolet Top 10 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2023

By all accounts, the 2023 Scottsdale edition of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction was one of its biggest events ever. Throughout the nine-day program in the Arizona desert, thousands of the world's most valuable vehicles changed hands – many for staggering sums. A wide variety of Chevrolet cars and trucks were among those that rolled across the auction block at Westworld of Scottsdale.

By all accounts, the 2023 Scottsdale edition of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction was one of its biggest events ever. Throughout the nine-day program in the Arizona desert, thousands of the world's most valuable vehicles changed hands – many for staggering sums. A wide variety of Chevrolet cars and trucks were among those that rolled across the auction block at Westworld of Scottsdale.

While each Bowtie-powered vehicle on the yearly docket has its own special characteristics, some stand out above all others to command the biggest prices. They range from crate engine*-powered restomod builds to pristine, numbers-matching originals.

Below we take a look at the top-10 Chevrolet earners from this year's event.


10. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 ($440,000)
This year's list kicks off with one of the most famous muscle cars in history. This Chevelle was one of only 4,475 LS6 models built in 1970. It features its original, numbers-matching 454 cu.-in. engine making 450 horsepower, along with the original, numbers-matching four-speed transmission. The car has been documented as authentic by multiple Chevelle experts. According to records, it was built in Baltimore, Maryland, and has an official GM production date of July 7, 1970. A customer ordered the car in Cranberry Red with black stripes and black bucket seats for the interior.

Not only was this model the highest-powered Chevelle in the famed model's lifetime, but it was also the only production GM vehicle with a higher horsepower rating than the Corvette.


9. 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible ($478,500)

Speaking of Corvettes, the first one to make the list is this custom convertible which features a Chevrolet Performance LS427/570 crate engine.* The power plant builds on the LS7 and makes 570 horsepower along with 540 lb.-ft. of torque. This particular setup is backed by a 4L75-E four-speed automatic transmission. The Corvette sits on an Art Morrison GT chassis utilizing compact independent rear suspension with coilovers for an adjustable ride height.

The car is painted in Axalta Boyd Red and features a full leather interior – also in red. The build was completed in November 2022 after 1,500 man-hours of work.


8. 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Split-Window Coupe ($546,700)
You know it's a good year when the first car to break the half-million dollar mark is eighth on the list. That honor goes to this Pro Touring mid-year Corvette powered by a special LS7 engine cranking out 665 horsepower and 575 lb.-ft. of torque. It is backed by a TREMEC TKO five-speed transmission. The build utilizes an original factory GM body painstakingly restored on a rotisserie. It rides on a custom SRIII Motorsports chassis incorporating C5 Corvette suspension components.

This black-on-black car was built from the ground up with the goal of making it appear and perform like a modern supercar, all while maintaining the C2 Corvette's distinct style.


T6. 1953 Chevrolet Corvette 235/150 Convertible ($550,000)
Here we return to original restorations with this beauty from the first model year of the Corvette. All were famously Polo White with red interior, and this car is No. 103 of the 300 Corvettes built in 1953. Amazingly, it was found at a Pennsylvania estate sale in 2003, where it had been stored since the original owner bought it way back in 1961. Jeff's Resurrections in Taylor, Texas, was responsible for the 2,000-hour frame-off restoration. Power comes from the classic "Blue Flame" inline six-cylinder engine making 150 horsepower.


T6. 1960 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible ($550,000)

As we reach the halfway point of the top 10 list we stay in the C1 Corvette era, but this one is another custom featuring a Chevrolet Performance LT1 engine.* The 6.2L, direct-injected V-8 power plant is rated at 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission. This build incorporates an all-original body and is finished in PPG Royal Sapphire. It is paired with a Terracotta color interior.

Other modern upgrades include a C7 independent front and rear suspension from Art Morrison, which features a fully adjustable ride height and Strange coilovers. Wilwood brakes utilize C7 six-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors.


T4. 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 327/300 Convertible ($572,000)
The top five of this year's list kicks off with an unrestored C1 Corvette owned by one family for 60 years. The white car with red interior is powered by a 300-horsepower, 327 cu.-in. Small-Block V-8 and has just 9,611 original miles on the odometer. The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. What's more, this Corvette is documented with every piece of paperwork since it was new.


T4. 1953 Kindig CF1 Barrett-Jackson Edition Custom Roadster ($572,000)
Renowned Kindig-It Design is responsible for this wild build. Although not a Chevrolet vehicle. this roadster is powered by a 427 cu.-in. Lingenfelter Performance Eliminator Spec LS engine with an LS7 block, LS3 heads and Borla eight-stack injection. The power plant makes a whopping 652 rear-wheel horsepower and 580 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is backed with a GM 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission

Kindigi-It CF1 roadsters are based on the appearance of the 1953 Corvette and are built utilizing a completely carbon-fiber body with a custom Roadster Shop chassis. This one includes a full front and rear C7 Corvette suspension. This one-off, #8 roadster from the mind of Dave Kindig is painted in the Kindig-created Black Ice and is paired with a Can Can red leather interior. The car features custom Barrett-Jackson badging and other special details that make it all the more rare and collectible.


3. 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Baldwin Motion ($583,000)
The first podium finisher on this year's list is an original and unrestored, Motion Performance-modified 1968 Camaro RS/SS with documentation confirming Baldwin Chevrolet as the original dealer. The black-on-black car has wide-ranging features in place that weren't offered by the factory, including the original 425-horsepower, 427 cu.-in.GM engine as installed by Motion Performance. The engine is mated to the car's original M21 close-ratio four-speed transmission. All owner history for this car is in place as well.

The vehicle serves as a prime example of the collaboration between Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion Performance, which today is part of muscle-car lore.


T1. 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Custom Convertible ($770,000)

Two classic Chevrolet vehicles are tied for the No. 1 position on this year's list, with each hammer sold for more than three-quarters of a million dollars. First, we'll highlight this C2 Corvette convertible powered by a 540-horsepower LS3 engine* connected to a 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission. The restomod sits on an Art Morrison chassis and features four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes. The Corvette has a "Dirty Martini'' green exterior with a luxurious Buttercream interior and a cream cloth top.

The new build was completed in October 2022 by Jeff Hayes Customs.


T1. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 COPO ($770,000)

The 9560 model COPO is often regarded as the pinnacle of the Camaro's long history. Only 69 cars featuring GM's all-aluminum, 427 cu-in. ZL-1 Big-Block were produced when clever dealers used Chevrolet's Central Office Production Order (COPO) program to specially order high-performance vehicles. This particular COPO is No. 61 of the potent machines originally built for racing. It has a numbers-matching 427/430 HP aluminum engine backed by an M21 four-speed manual transmission.

This green-on-black COPO includes a Jerry MacNeish Certificate of Authenticity and represents the best of Bowtie creativity. Today's COPO Camaro carries on that special lineage.

During the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event, the Chevrolet Performance display also showcased crate engines*, transmissions, Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain Systems, vehicle upgrades and more. Among the highlights were the ZZ632/1000 crate engine* and The BLOCK's LT4 E-ROD†-powered 1957 Cadillac called "Rosie."

More impressive Chevrolet builds are set to roll across the block during the next Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida, on April 13-15.
